Libya: stop the repression

Dear friends,

's army in Libya's Gaddafi brutally killing thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators. This week, the UN and the EU will meet on emergency Libia e potrebbero decidere di congelare i beni del regime, istituire una zona di non sorvolo e adire i tribunali internazionali.

Hanno condemned the violence, but if we let them move from words to deeds, to agree to establish a no-fly zone on Libya, freezing of assets of Gaddafi and his generals, targeted sanctions against the regime and the initiation of a proceedings before international tribunals for all military officers involved in the repression, this could stop the bombing and divide the command structure of Gaddafi.

We have no time to lose: people in Libya are massacred by their own government. Click to send a message directly to all the delegates of the UN Security Council, the EU foreign ministers and EU High Representative to stop the violence, and word of mouth do with all . We encourage the UN and the EU to act now flooding of messages:

Colonel Gaddafi has commanded the country from a tyrant for 42 years without parliament or constitution. It 's the longest serving dictator in Africa and the Middle East. No foreign journalist has been able to enter Libya, and the government closed the network of Internet and mobile phones in an attempt to hide the brutal violence in progress. But the protesters, calling for change of regime and rights key, they say that thousands of people are still on the streets despite thousands of them were massacred. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said that the attacks by the government "could be considered crimes against humanity."

Shocked by the atrocities, the Libyan diplomats and senior military commanders have already defected from the regime. Both the UN Security Council and the EU have called for the immediate cessation of violence, but neither has so far acted. If the EU and the UN would rise up the pressure on Qadhafi and his court - confiscating their wealth and threatening to prosecute - those who now give may reconsider the order to kill and stop the bloodshed.

The UN Security Council is held now in Brazil, a government strongly committed to human rights against which Avaaz has built a solid reputation of commitment and activism. There is a long time to convince the UN and the EU : Flooded their e-mail messages from around the world! Leave a message and word of mouth do with all your friends and your family:

Persons in Libya are killed because they ask freedom, health, education and a decent salary: basic needs we all share. Today we raise our voices from all over the world as a global community to condemn these massacres and shameful act together to stop the bloodshed and support the right of appeal to the Libyan change.

With hope and determination,

Alice, Ricken, Pascal, Graziela, Rewan and the whole Avaaz team
