In a forum the other on Facebook and turning between the calls on line, the desire to adopt a furry from a kennel, to make visible an invisible, has become increasingly strong in us at the end of 2009.
returned from honeymoon in October, we found more to talk about a "wow" at home and a child, but the thing we were not surprised nor concerned: both are choices that have to be spontaneous, and if so trouble was.
We focus on the appeal of a bretoncino-setter for 10 years, Julie, from less than one year in a shelter 20 miles away from home: go to see him in a gray Saturday in late November, we take a few days to decide and back from the Christmas holidays, January 2, 2010, Julius enters our family and makes us the best gift of beginning of the year.
's right, because the gift I made it hard not we remove from the kennel, but he, coming to our house, "called it" immediately, inter alia, with a little' pee on the furniture, just to mark his new territory.
Yeah, because you start with Julius are just difficult, working in both managed to stay with him in the morning, lunch and return to the office. The
keep an eye on putting a webcam and asking for help to neighbors, who tell us that barks and howls as soon as resta solo, e lo fa spesso per ore.
Decidiamo dopo a month to make an appeal: let the family fits what we know him to devote the time and the company that it deserves and that we, unfortunately, we are not able to give.
course in the meantime we Julius with us will never put a paw in a kennel!
involve volunteers, we spread the calls on line, create a group on Facebook.
Months went by and finally in mid-April request arrives, the volunteers should evaluate the requirements and it looks really okay for Giulio.
For us maybe a little 'less, because just in the last two weeks we have seen changes in his behavior: the pee had almost disappeared, even the barking, and maybe was getting used to our pace, perhaps because he was already good.
decides to proceed on this road: Giulio certainly will adapt to their new home and the time that his new family can devote certainly facilitate and speed up things.
On a hot Sunday afternoon in late April brought Julie in an anonymous car park on the outskirts of Milan, where the volunteers take over to bring in his new home.
'll leave it to them simply disappear, without his being aware that we are seeing for the last time for both, is one of the worst feelings in the past 35 years.
The first few days with the new family look good, we are in touch and give suggestions to ease the burden on new caregivers, so that easily surpass the difficulties encountered by us, but something does not convince us that there are such things in the conduct of Julius and we have no doubt that it is finding good.
vomiting, abnormal behavior, perhaps signals are normal in adapting to a new reality, one more, or maybe light something else.
few days later, the blow: Giulio was launched from the balcony, fortunately not too high a level, perhaps to follow his new masters, perhaps because the suffering of loneliness, who knows ... It has a
fracture to her leg, lacerations to the hilt, breaking the jaw: was made, and comes out battered, but alive.
make an immediate decision: a few weeks after arrival in the new house, bring him back with us, in anticipation of a possible admission to a specialized facility.
The first days of his return are extremely difficult: it is very weak, hard to eat or walk, but as soon as we can see the tail is always moving and doing everything to tell us that he is happy.
After a few weeks, improvements: and that satisfaction, a day in fall at home and not find it in the kitchen where we left off, but in the bedroom, a sign of a walk tiring towards the place where he usually waited until a month before!
And what if the street for those few yards, left pee and poop everywhere?
They were perhaps the first steps of our new Giulietto, albeit difficult, even with one leg in plaster?
The rest is recent history: the slow improvements and newspapers, the points on his testicles removed and the mandible, the first walks outside, the plaster was finally removed, and Giulio, who returns to get accustomed to our absence, no howling, no dirty, waiting for us ... and now you can enjoy a few days at sea on a beach strictly dog-welcome, a real prince!
It 's true, his return with us was maybe still forced or accelerated by an extraordinary and tragic event, but we want to see it as a sign that that ultimately was the right choice and the right way to go.
Giulio has suffered much and deserve the best care from us, we are sorry for having made the initial choice, which appears in the wrong post, but at the same time assured that we will give you all the love it deserves.
We understand that one of the many lessons we have learned will serve us well on many other occasions, indeed, we will forever never give up, let alone the first difficulty.
There is always a solution for everything, and if it is not found, perhaps not enough has been sought and if not, at least you have the consciousness of having tried with all his strength, all the invisible (or former such as Julius) deserve.
Months after, from that famous January 2, Julie gave us another gift: thanks Julie, we are sure you will not be the last and that you will always be indebted.
